7th International Mangrove Conference (MMM7) - See you in Okinawa in July 2026

The 7th Mangrove, Macrobenthos and Management Conference (MMM7) will be held from July 1st to 5th, 2026 in Ishigaki, Okinawa Island, Japan.

Organized by the University of the Ryukyus and the International Society for Mangrove Ecosystems (ISME), this conference will bring together scientists, managers, and policymakers from around the world to discuss mangrove conservation and restoration.

A major scientific gathering:
Since its inception in 2000 in Kenya, the MMM conference series has established itself as an essential event for the international community working on mangrove ecosystems. This initiative has brought together researchers, practitioners, and policymakers every 3 to 4 years, fostering knowledge sharing and collaboration on a global scale.

After Kenya, the conference has traveled the world: Australia (2006), Sri Lanka (2012), United States (2016), Singapore (2019), and Colombia (2023). Each edition has contributed to advancing the science and management of these ecosystems, among the most productive on the planet, essential for biodiversity, coastal protection, and climate change mitigation.

MangMap at MMM conferences:
At the last edition (MMM6) in Cartagena, Colombia in 2023, Elodie Blanchard presented MangMap and its mangrove mapping work. This year, the MangMap team plans to submit its latest monitoring and mapping work on mangrove ecosystems for MMM7.

Professor Shigeyuki Baba, conference chair and executive director of ISME, invites the international community to make MMM7 a new platform for exchange in the protection of these vital ecosystems.
