Webinar of January 20: Monitoring mangroves and their blue carbon stock on the Guiana Shield
Just over a year ago, in spring 2024, the ESA Coastal Blue Carbon project was launched. After 18 months of work, the first results were presented during a webinar led by Elodie Blanchard (who is part of the MangMap team), Christophe Proisy, Thibault Catry from IRD and Alvise Ca'Zorzi from Blueseeds.
This work focuses on mapping mangrove habitats and estimating carbon stocks in French Guiana, as well as more broadly across the entire Guiana Shield (from Amapá to Guyana). The multi-temporal analysis conducted over three key years (2017, 2020, 2023) allows for observation of the evolution of mangroves and their carbon stocks.
This webinar was an opportunity to present these results and gather the expectations and needs of regional stakeholders involved in the monitoring, management and valorization of mangroves and coastal carbon.
